Today’s fishy star is the wonderful Red Lipped Batfish, I just love the brilliant shade of lippy and the tash!
Their unique form makes them rather awkward swimmers so they use their strong pectoral and pelvic fins to “walk” across the ocean’s sandy bottom.
Like other anglerfish, the Red-Lipped batfish has a structure on its head known as an illicium which is thought to be employed for luring prey in.
One article I read also suggests they secrete a “perfume” to attract prey. Lippy and perfume on, definitely ready for a night out!
