When life imitates art: For the last four years actor & comedian, Volodymyr Zelensky - Mr Ze - has starred in a TV series as a citizen who accidentally becomes President of Ukraine. Today he accidentally became the President of Ukraine.

In 2015 his TV character, Vasyl Holoborodko, appeared in “Servant for the People” (available on Netflix) as a teacher who rants about political corruption on video. The video goes viral, and he gets elected as President of Ukraine.

The TV show then follows what he does as President to combat corruption. As discontent grew with the current government and its President, Petro Poroshenko, so grew the popularity of the show.

In opinion polls last year, he was already a front runner for the elections - before he was officially standing. A vote for him was seen as a protest vote, and just like his TV character, he began accidentally winning.

Then, on New Years Eve. The 1+1 TV channel, which normally features a New Year message from the President, instead at the stroke of midnight featured “Mr Ze” announcing his run for President.

The name of his political party? The same as the TV series: Servant for the People.

His main focus? The same as the TV series: Combat corruption.

Since then, over the last 100 days he has avoided TV interviews, was a no-show at the one presidential debate with President Poroshenko, and has done most of his campaigning on Youtube and Instagram.

He ran concerts instead of campaign speeches, saying “Why would there be a need for campaigning? You’re smart people, you know what to do on March 31, right?”

Today, with the second round of voting complete, Mr Ze has won by a landslide with 73% of the votes. What began as a joke in the eye of the other politicians has ended with him - and the public - having the last laugh.

100 years ago, Andrew Carnegie contracted journalist Napoleon Hill to write a book on what Carnegie saw as the key to success. Hill called it “The Carnegie Secret” and summed it up as “Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.”

Today, with the growth of social media and online video it’s far easier for a vision to become visual and viral.
