Having set up a team of people who I meet with and discuss projects over the internet via the Slack.com platform.. works well.. what do you do?

Where work happens

Slack is where work flows. It's where the people you need, the information you share, and the tools you use come together to get things done.

Last week, I reduced my responsibility to "Providing our teams with the resources & capabilities that allow them to perform at their best" Works wonders. :-)

In my project management or task management system, I had lots of categories so I used to get involved in all kinds of stuff. Now this is the only category for this business I have. It forces to me to think in "enabling" and not in "doing stuff" terms. So if I think up stuff like I often do as a STAR, I can't fit them into that category. I need to twist until it works and fits in there. So when I have a new project or stuff I want to work on, I first need the buy-in from my team because it will be their project and not mine. I then dedicate myself as Advisor only to those projects.

Ok, so I already have one for you. We're a team of 3 co-founders plus one full-time and one part-time person. We're about a year into the business, built a strong ecosystem of clients & partners, have a strong brand in the market and listened for the past year on what people need/want. We're now working on defining the business model & service offering which is led by our CREATOR on the team. It's not going as fast as I expect it to go but I'm always the light-speed mover anyway. It's extremely hard for me to accelerate things also because I don't want to push my team too hard. How do you make sure that in a creative situation (like business modeling & service design), your team moves fast, feels inspired to perform and drives the process forward?

Yesterday in our team meeting, I focused on connecting the team instead of managing or sharing my ideas and point of view. That worked wonders :-)

There is so much internal talent that many companies overlook. Noone knows the company better than those who live it every day. The more ideas are shared the faster you get to the best ones to progress the company sooner!

For me it's about staying in the mindset of being the "Advisor" and not the "CEO". When I'm the CEO, I want to control everything and have my hands in everything. When I'm the Advisor, just like with my clients, I'm not allowed to do that. So I started putting myself on mute in team meetings so I can't talk and only unmute myself when asked to speak. Helps a lot for a guy who always has something to say :-)

Daniel, the unbespoken is a lot like thanksgiving when after task. as a part of Quaker leadership accountability and god's will the other two aspects to leading. Like silence, bit melody. #mentionsofyou

Success of the Day: I got my team to engage a lot more in our Project Management tool and exchange with each other. Now they are collaborating there too :-)

Sure, I use Asana. And one of our team members hated it... So I made the "pitch" not about using the tool but about supporting one person in our team who is on the other side of the world in her work. That's what inspired her to get a lot more engaged :-)
