I watched last night's webinar with great interest last night. I TRIED to post a question, but when I clicked the "Show questions" button, a circle went around and around for the rest of the webinar, but no question panel ever came up. :(

I followed your 1, 2, 3 steps... except that at step 3 there was no "Join" button, only a "Join request sent" button. When I click on it, a "Cancel request" box comes up.
So maybe I have, somehow, already accidentally joined. But WHY was there no confirmation message?
